Brief History

Clifden Glen or ‘Woods’s as it was known entertained most of the sporting activities in times past. It was our football pitch, our athletic ground and hosted the annual Clifden Horse Races. The early years of the now famous ‘All Blacks’ rugby club were spent in ‘Woods’s’. The original ‘Lodge’ (with some alterations) is still in place. The Owen Glin river forms the southern boundary and is a renowned salmon and trout fishery. The fishing rights are owned by Clifden Trout Anglers Association.
